Protection of Flares
Flare systems require reliable protection against flame flashback Flashback Phenomenon occurring in a flammable mixture of air and gas when the local velocity of the combustible mixture becomes less than the flame velocity, causing the flame to travel back to the point of mixture. , particularly where combustible vapors are routed between tanks, headers, and flare stacks.
In OEM flare assemblies, PROTEGO® components are integrated at defined points in the system to control flame propagation and pressure effects.
Typical configurations include:
- Pressure and vacuum Vacuum Vacuum is the pressure in an enclosed space that is lower than the ambient pressure. relief protection with deflagration Deflagration Explosion propagating at subsonic velocity (EN 1127-1:1997). and endurance burning Endurance burning Stabilized burning for an unlimited time. resistance
- End-of-line deflagration flame arresters Deflagration flame arrester Flame arrester designed to prevent the transmission of a deflagration. It can be an end-of-line flame arrester or an in-line flame arrester. installed on vent outlets
- In-line detonation flame arresters Detonation flame arrester Flame arrester designed to prevent the transmission of a detonation. located within vapor piping
These components are supplied as certified OEM units and positioned to align with the functional requirements of the flare system design.
Protection of Fans and Blowers
Fans and blowers used for vapor handling introduce ignition risk if flames propagate upstream through the system.
PROTEGO® OEM Flame Arresters are integrated into fan and blower assemblies to interrupt flame transmission while maintaining functional flow characteristics. OEM solutions for fans and blowers include Flame Arresters designed specifically for use with vacuum pumps, compressors, and blower systems. These units are installed upstream or downstream of rotating equipment as required by the application and are supplied as part of a complete, tested equipment configuration.
Protection of Vacuum Pumps
Vacuum pumps handling flammable gases require protection against flame propagation.
PROTEGO® OEM Flame Arrester Units are incorporated directly into vacuum pump assemblies to address this risk. Integrated solutions include Flame Arrester Units installed on inlet and outlet connections of vacuum pumps, compressors, and blowers. These configurations provide consistent protection across operating modes while remaining compatible with OEM equipment layouts and service access requirements.
